How to get into Acting

That is really like saying how do you split the Atom. The best way is to first get some acting experience behind you. To do this you would be best served if you joined a local Amateur Dramatics Group, addresses can usually be found at local libraries, in the Yellow Pages or at the local council offices. You can also go to Drama school, most colleges have courses for Drama and Media classes.

If you want to get into Extra-work, then buy The Stage newspaper and look at the adverts in the back. Be careful here, this way into acting is fraught with con-men. Most of the agencies are genuine and will get you work, but like most industries that rely on agencies there are a few bad ones. Always ask to see some history, ask how long they have been going and what programs they normally supply extras to. Most will ask for a "Book Fee", do not pay it unless they are prepared to take it out of your fees for work they get you first. There is little legislation on these agencies.

There is a very good agency attached to a casting agency I know of in London. They are called q-casting and they are very good. If you don`t have an agent and you are an actor then contact q-casting and go along for an interview. If they think you have potential they will film you and set you up your own web-page with a short showreel (filmed at the agency) which is accessible by directors 24/7. Contact them on 0207 434 0774 or look at their website on www.q-casting.com
